Feb. 24, 2014

The San Mateo Union High School District (SMUHSD) and the Foundation for the Fine and Performing Arts will present "IN CONCERT" scheduled for Saturday, March 8, 2014, 7:00pm - 9:30 P.M. at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center, 600 North Delaware Street, San Mateo.  Over 270 student musicians from the Honors Jazz Ensemble, Choir, Orchestra, and Symphonic Band of the six high schools in the SMUHSD will be led by Guest Directors during the performance.  Tickets will be sold at the door and priced at $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students (cash or check only).  For more information, please contact Steven Koury at koury@mac.com.

The Aragon Music Department and Yamaha are proud to present Mic Gillette, brass player from the world-famous Tower of Power, who will be performing with the Aragon Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble on Thursday, February 13th, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Aragon Performing Arts Center.  For tickets, please contact Mr. Davis (mrtroydavis@me.com) or any Aragon Jazz Student ($15 - in advance/$20 - at the door).  Volunteers are needed to staff the ticket booth and to sell concessions items from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Parents interested in helping please click here to sign-up.

The Aragon Music Department will be hosting the CMEA Jazz Festival at the Aragon Performing Arts Center on Friday, January 31st from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm and Saturday, February 1st from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  Approximately 300 students from 14 bands will be performing on Friday; approximately 220 students from 10 bands on Saturday.  Volunteers are needed for the following positions:

  • Festival Coordinator (1 Adult per Shift)
  • Festival Assistant (1 Adult per Shift)
  • Concessions Sale (1 Adult per Shift)
  • Food Coordinator (1 Adult per Shift)

Donations are also needed for concessions items.  For those who are interested and available to help, please click here to sign up.

Aragon Music Boosters

First and foremost, a big THANK YOU to all the parents and students who served as Stanford Concessions Stand volunteers from September through November.  With your generous support, we have raised over $2500 for the Music Department to benefit all the music students in 2013-2014.  Students who participated as helpers will receive Silver Sword Awards.

Our first 2013 Winter Concert, featuring our fabulous orchestra and choir, was held last Friday, December 6th at the Aragon Performing Arts Center.   Congratulations to Mr. John Chen and the students for giving the audience a wonderful performance!  A special thank you to Ron Scheldrup who recorded the performance and put the video on YouTube.  Anyone interested in watching the show please click here.

Our second concert, directed by Mr. Troy Davis, will be featuring our amazing bands this Friday, December 13, 2013 at 7:00 P.M.  Tickets are $10 for adults, and $7 for senior and students.

The Aragon Music Boosters wants to thank all the students and adults who volunteered at the Stanford Concessions Stand during the Stanford vs. Oregon football game on November 7th.  The “Amazing Ten” worked as a team selling gourmet hotdogs, pretzels, nachos and drinks right across from the Stanford Bench.  All proceeds will go toward the Music Department to benefit all the music students this year.  There are a couple of spots available on Saturday, November 30th during the Stanford vs. Notre Dame football game.  If you are still interested to sign up, please click here.

Are you available to volunteer for the Stanford Concessions Stand during the next Stanford vs. Oregon football game on Thursday, November 7th?  The Aragon Music Boosters is still looking for more students (over the age of 16) or adults to work as a team selling gourmet hotdogs, pretzels, nachos and drinks right across from the Stanford Bench.  Students volunteering for the event will earn points that will be credited towards the Silver Sword Awards.  To sign up, please click here.

The Aragon High School Drama Boosters and Music Boosters are also pleased to unveil the Friends of Aragon Theater Fundraiser. This fundraiser allows you to sponsor a seat in our theater and name it for your student and loved ones. A plaque will be mounted in the armrest of a chair in the theater for future audiences to see. The Music Department wants to thank everyone who participated in the first PLAY-A-THON on Saturday, September 28th at the theater.  Through all the efforts, we brought in over $10,000 to help us meet this year’s budget goals.  A special thank you to Jordan Tom and Kristin Shaw, our top two fundrasiers, who each brought in $500 from our generous donors.

Our annual potluck was held on Tuesday, September 24th at 6:00 p.m. at the Aragon Performing Arts Theater.  A big kudos to board members Annette Kranzler and Shannon Dobbs, along with other volunteers, who put together a wonderful event entitled "Concert and Nibbles."

The Music Department held its first PLAY-A-THON on Saturday, September 28th at the theater.  Students are asked to turn in their pledge money and forms to Mr. Davis/Mr. Chen by Friday, October 4th.  There are HUGE prizes for our top fundraisers.

Last but not least, we want to thank all the student and adult volunteers who sign up for the Stanford Concessions Stand on Saturday, October 5th.  We hope to sell more food and beverages this time as all proceeds will go toward the Music Department to benefit all the music students this year.

•    11:45 A.M. Orchestra arrives; Orchestra performs from 12:15 P.M. - 1:15 P.M.
•    1:00 P.M. Jazz arrives; Jazz performs from 1:30 P.M. - 2:30 P.M.
•    2:15 P.M. Choir arrives; Choir performs from 2:45 P.M. - 3:45 P.M.

The Aragon Music Boosters is looking for students (over the age of 16) or adults to volunteer at our annual fundraising event at the Stanford football games. Set-up helpers and servers are needed and we will carpool from Aragon. Greetings from the President and Meeting Dates for 2013-14

Hello Everyone,

Hope you all had a wonderful summer!

On June 15th, the Music Boosters hosted a farewell party for David Martin.  David was our Director of Orchestra and Choirs at Aragon from 2001-2013 and he retired after serving over 32 years in the San Mateo Union High School District.  We all sure miss him and wish him a happy retirement.

I am pleased to take this opportunity to introduce John Chen, our new Director of Orchestra and Choirs, who is an alumnus from Aragon.  You will get a chance to meet him at our next monthly meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 20th from 6:45 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the library.  

For those who cannot join our meeting, please come to the Back to School Night on Thursday, August 29th.

Some of you may know Lorraine Tom, Pat Garcia-Luna, Joanna Privitera, Nina Lewis, Jean Garcia and Sandra Harrington who stepped off from our Board this year.  I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to them for all the contributions they have made to the Music Boosters and the Music Program.
